Best book adaptions

The current on-going controversy between author Chetan Bhagat and the makers of '3 Idiots' has raised the issue of whether the author should get the credit for the movie story in case the movie is adapted from the book. Here we bring some of the best book adaptions which won milion hearts of movie fans around the world.

'Harry Potter' : The one book series which has gained popularity world wide irrespective of language barrier is undoubtedly J.K.Rowling's 'Harry Potter' series. Though the book series has ended with release of 'Harry Potter & The Deathly Hallows', the movie goers are anxiously waiting for it to release on screen. (AGENCIES)
The Mistress of Spices: Lovely Aishwarya and Gurinder Chadha teamed up again in 'The Mistress of Spices' which is directed by Gurinder's husband Paul Mayeda Berges and is based upon the novel of the same name by Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni.
Omkara: Intense director Vishal Bhardwaj brought Shaekspear's 'Othello' alive on screen with the help of briliant actors like Ajay Devgan and Kareena Kapoor alongwith Saif Ali Khan.
Black Friday: The most hard hitting, realistic movie on Mumbai bomb blasts was made by talented director Anurag Kashyap which is based on S.Hussain Zaidi's novel. The movie caught up into the controversy and after a prolonged legal fight the film-makers were able to release this movie which was an instant hit with the audience because of its content.
Bride & Prejudice: Our 'desi beauty' made her debut in wester cinema through Gurinder Chadha's 'Bride & Prejudice' which is inspired by Jane Austin's classic 'Pride & Prejudice'.
Maqbool: Irfan Khan one of the finest actors in Bollywood showed his acting prowess in Vishal Bhardwaj's 'Maqbool' which is inspired from world known author Shaekspear's 'Macbeth'.
Natrang: After matching Aamir's caliber in 'Rang De...' , once again Atul Kulkarni proved that he is the most dedicated actors in the film industry by gaining and losing his body muscles for the unusal role in Marathi movie 'Natrang' is taken from the same titled novel by famour marathi author Dr.Anand Yadav.
Twilight: Based on Stephenie Meyer's 'vampire-human' love series books, the 'Twilight' is the most popular among the young audience. It has given Robert Pattinson a 'Teenage Heartthrob' title.
The Namesake: Irfan Khan and Tabu was paired again for Mira Nair's 'The Namesake' is based upon the novel of the smae name by Jhumpa Lahiri who also appeared in the movie.

Lord of the rings: The trilogy is based on the three-volume book 'The Lord Of The Rings ' by J.R.R. Tokien. While they follow the book's general storyline, the films also feature some additions to and deviations from the source material.The films were critically acclaimed, winning 17 out of 30 Academy awards and received wide praise for the cast and for the innovative practical and digital special effects.
Slumdog Millionaire: Adaptated from the novel by Indian author Vikas Swarup was nominated for ten Academy Awards in 2009 and won eight, the most for any film, including Best Original Score for A.R.Rehman and Gulzar.

Devdas: Saratchandra Chattophadyay's novel 'Devdas' attracted directors like P.C.Barua (1936), Bimal Roy (1955), Sanjay Leela Bansali (2002) and Anurag Kashyap (2009).

Chokher BaliIndia's greatest poet and writer Rabindranath Tagore's novel 'Chokher Bali' was portrayed on screen by the world's most beautiful woman 'Aishwarya Rai Bachchan' in the movie 'Chokher Bali'.
Pinjar: 'Mast girl' Urmila Matondkar showcased her power packed performance in movie 'Pinjar' which was based on the novel by same name by famous author 'Amrita Pritam'.
Parineeta: Simple yet sensuous Vidya Balan made her debut in Bollywood through Pradeep Sarkar directed movie 'Parineeta' which the most read novel in Bengali literature by Saratchandra Chattopadhyay.
Jurassic Park: Jurassic Park is a 1993 American science fiction-adventure film directed by Steven Spielberg and based on the novel of the same name by Michael Crichton. This movie gave the first real-life experience of 'lost world of dinasours'.
Kamsutra: World's most erotic book written by Vatsayana was made alive on screen by superb direction by talented Mira Nair. The movie created a lot of buzz regarding the intimate scenes involved between the actors.
Paheli: Paheli'King of Bollywood' tried to gain entry in western cinema by sending Amol Palekar directed 'Paheli' for Oscar's nominations which was the subject of debate. This SRK- Rani starrer movie is Amol's interpretation of author Vijayadhan Dehta's 'Folktale'.
Hello: Actor turned director Atul Agnihotri tried to capture the popularity of Chetan Bhagat's novel 'One Night At A Call Centre' by making a movie 'Hello' which was bombed at the box office due to lack of tight script as well poor performance by the actors.
Rang Rasiya: Known for his fine work Ketan Mehta took inspiration from Marathi author Ranjit Desai's award winning novel 'Raja Ravi Verma' and decided to make a movie on talented artiste called 'Rang Rasiya'. Sadly, steamy scenes between Randeep and Nandana couldn't save the movie from its failure.
Jaws: Steven Spielberg's first mega success at box office was 'Jaws' base on the novel by Peter Benchley. It broke all the records, leading to what the press described as "Jawsmania.".
