Patriotism B'wood ishtyle

Every year we see movies dedicated to freedom fighters and the spirit of patriotism. On the eve of Independence Day, let's have a look at some ground-breaking patriotic movies...

Gadar : The Film 'Gadar' to it's credits have some amazing scenes and brilliant performances by Ameesha Patel and Sunny Deol. (BCCL)
Gandhi : With portrayal of Gandhi, the was superb and it ends where it begins; with Gandhi's assassination and the extraordinary funeral procession. (BCCL)
Purab Aur Pachhim : 'Preet jahan ki reet sadaa' song is a real patriotic stufff of the movie. Manoj Kumar’s multitalented nature helped to touch the chord with audiences.

Mother India : Mother India is the ultimate tribute to Indian womanhood and motherhood! This epic saga of the sufferings of an Indian peasant woman has an inherent appeal, being typical of the Indian situation in that era.

Haqeeqat : With senses of oneness and patriotism, Haqeeqat movie shows the soldiers giving up their lives for the country. Dharmendra's acting is noteworthy who just made his mark in industry.

Kranti : It tells the story of two men who led the war against British Rule, Sanga (Dilip Kumar) and Bharat (Manoj Kumar) both of whom call themselves Kranti. (BCCL)
Pukar : 'Pukar' recounts the story of the highest form of patriotism exploring the awesome expanse of Alaska for the first time in Indian cinema.

Pinjar: The movie tells the story of Puro, a young woman of Hindu background, who lives a lovely life with her family. All is well for Puro, till she is kidnapped by a mysterious man, who turns out to be Rashid, a man of Muslim descent.

Rang De Basanti: A thought-provoking, soul-stirring wake up call to the youth of India. The film begins with a British documentary filmmaker who is determined to make a film on Indian freedom fighters based on accounts taken from the diary entries of her grandfather. She requests a group of youngsters to act in her film. The film deals with the events that change their lives completely.

Lakshya: In this movie directed by Farhan Akhtar, Hrithik played the role of Karan Shergill, who leads his team to victory over the terrorists. It is a fictional story based on the 1999 Kargil Conflict. From an immature teenager to a mature officer, after much emotional turmoil he decides on the goal of his life. However, thos goal is to free a mountain peak invaded by the Pakistani Army.

Legend of Bhagat Singh: As the name suggests the movie is based on national hero 'Bhagat Singh'. The movie shows how Bhagat Singh, a freedom fighter develops his undying love for his country under the rule of Britishers.

Mangal Pandey: The Rising: The movie portrays the life of Mangal Pandey (played by Aamir Khan), an Indian soldier who is known for his role in the Indian rebellion of 1857. It is based on the revolt by Hindu and Muslim soldiers against the British rule over the issue of gun cartridges being greased with animal fat forbidden by their religions.

Border: Border is a film based on the Indo-Pak War of 1971. The movie is an adaptation from real life events that happened at the Battle of Longewala fought in Rajasthan. It is about how a band of 120 soldiers of the Punjab regiment successfully defend their post all night against a whole Tank regiment of the Pakistani Army.

Hero- The Love Story of a Spy: The story of this flick revolves around Arjun Khanna, a spy whose mission to stop terrorist Ishaq Khan. The story narrates how Arjun (played by Sunny Deol) thwarts an evil conspiracy, hatched to allow terrorists to steal a nuclear bomb to use against India.

1971: It is a movie which deals with the 1971 war between India and Pakistan and it’s after-effects. There have been umpteen patriotic movies in Bollywood that have dealt with the topics of ‘Indo-Pak war’ and ‘cross border terrorism’ but this movie touches upon the condition of the Indian POW's (prisoners of war) detained in the jails of Pakistan.

LOC Kargil: The film opens with a dramatic shot of Indian soldier's calling in one of its patrols to report in. The movie is an attempt to give a synopsis of the 1999 Kargil war. The movie closely highlights the situation of the war fought between India and Pakistan in the year 1999.
Sarhad Par: The movie is based on the holy land of the Punjab. On the arid border of this terrorism-ridden state, army man Ranjit Singh (Sanjay Dutt) walks home after a long time.
